The realistic view

Beyond the first impression

Verified information only

A 189-room seafront chain hotel in Akçaabat's Söğütlü district, about 11 km west of Trabzon city centre, opened in 2015 as a Hilton Garden Inn and rebranded DoubleTree in 2019. Expect sea-view rooms, an indoor pool and free parking, but a taxi-dependent location and no alcohol served on site.

What it does well

  • Drivers who want free self-parking on the Trabzon coast road
  • Business travellers with meetings in Akçaabat, the Söğütlü industrial area or Trabzon University's Fatih campus
  • Families looking for connecting rooms or triple family rooms

What to watch for

  • The hotel is in Akçaabat, not central Trabzon: Meydan is 11 km away and there is no shuttle, so budget for taxis.
  • The pool and spa are closed on Sundays and until noon on Mondays, so weekend guests should plan their swim for Saturday.
  • Explorers on foot: Travellers who want to explore Trabzon Meydan and the bazaar on foot; every trip to the centre needs a taxi or public transport

Location

Trabzon, Akcaabat

Söğütlü Mah., Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa Sok. No:43, 61300 Akçaabat/Trabzon

The nearest airport is Trabzon Airport (TZX), 16 km away according to Hilton, or about 15–25 minutes by car depending on traffic. The hotel does not operate its own airport shuttle; some booking sites indicate a paid transfer can be arranged.

The hotel sits directly on the Black Sea shore along the Trabzon–Giresun coastal highway (D010) in Akçaabat's Söğütlü neighbourhood. According to Hilton, Trabzon city centre is 11 km away, Hagia Sophia Mosque 7 km, Sera Lake 4 km and Atatürk Mansion 12 km; Uzungöl is roughly 90 minutes and Sumela Monastery about an hour by car. Trabzon University's Fatih campus is around 600 m away and the Şenol Güneş Sports Complex about 5 km. A few restaurants are within a 2–6 minute walk, but no major sights are. A guest in early 2026 reported paying about 700 TL each way for a taxi to Meydan, and the hotel runs no shuttle to the centre.

The stay

Editor's notes

Extra fees & things to know

Breakfast is not included in every rate, and one guest reported that a prepaid breakfast did not show up at check-in, so keep your booking confirmation handy. Children's meals are charged separately on meal-inclusive packages. A credit card or cash deposit is required at check-in. Smoking in a non-smoking room incurs a 100 USD per night penalty. Valet parking, rollaway beds (2000 TL per night), EV charging and airport transfers all cost extra, and outside food and drink is not permitted under hotel policy.

Pool, spa & fitness

Facilities include a sea-view indoor pool heated to 26–28 °C, sauna, steam room, Turkish hammam and a spa with two treatment rooms. The spa is closed on Sundays and opens 12:00–20:00 on Mondays, and guest reviews confirm the pool follows the same closure. Children under 6 are not admitted to the spa and under-16s need adult supervision; massages must be booked in advance. The gym is compact but overlooks the sea, and one verified guest review notes it is open 24 hours.

Mövenpick Hotel Trabzon

Trabzon · Ortahisar · ★★★★

The former Royal Axis Suites, rebranded as Mövenpick in August 2021, sits on the coastal road 3 km from Trabzon Airport with sea-facing rooms and some apartment-style units with kitchens. It is licensed as a 4-star property and the city center is 8 km away.

Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Trabzon

Trabzon · Ortahisar · ★★★★★

An eight-storey, 350-room hotel right on the sea just 1 km from Trabzon Airport - the Başaran Group property is the region's largest five-star congress hotel, with 2,450 m² of meeting space for 1,500 delegates, an outdoor pool, a 2,500 m² spa with indoor pool and hamam, and its own beach. Known weak spots from reviews: persistently slow or dropping Wi-Fi, check-in queues at peak times and minibar billing disputes; for a seafront stay five minutes from the runway, it is effectively the only option in the province.

Mercure Trabzon Hotel

Trabzon · Ortahisar · ★★★★★

A 213-room, five-star Mercure opened in July 2021 on the Black Sea coastal road, 3-4 km from the airport and 500 m from Cevahir Mall; 160 rooms face the sea. A ninth-floor roof gym, seasonal outdoor pool and free underground parking make it practical for airport and family stays, but the city centre is a 15-minute taxi ride and the surroundings are not walkable.
